Niny Lovell (also known as Nina) Page 3
Many thanks for these memories from a childhood friend - Goldie Davies: "I never remember a time when I have not known Niny. Although as children we lived in different roads, the far ends of our gardens backed onto each other. Niny's mother was a good mother. She always dressed Niny and her sister in the same clothes. Niny's father was probably a stockbroker. They owned a car. I didn't know anyone else who owned a car. Niny and Joyce went at first to Waller Road Junior and Infants School oppositie to where I lived. Her parents paid for both of them to go to Honour Oak grammar School in Peckham. Vera, Joyce and Niny joined a local swimming club. Niny was a very good swimmer. She was chosen to represent Surrey in a championship but was not able to do so in the end because World War 2 had broken out. The swimming baths were closed so that it could be used as a mortuary. All three girls joined Lloyds Bank and ended up going to Trentham Gardens with the bank in the war. After that I lost touch with the Rose family, although I did go to Joyce's wedding. It was some years after that that Niny rang me. From then on we had long chats." |
